Jay-Z has announced that he will celebrate the launch of the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn with a special series of concerts. The hip-hop mogul will be performing eight shows at the new arena when it opens in September 2012. The new arena holds a special place in Jigga’s heart as it is located in his hometown of Brooklyn. Speaking at a press conference on the construction site of the arena, Jay also took the opportunity to announce that the basketball club New Jersey Nets will be renamed Brooklyn Nets when the team relocates to the arena when it opens. Sharing his thoughts on the move to BK, Jay – who owns a share in the club – said: “It’s great. I have a reason to come to Brooklyn often, which is fantastic for me because this is my foundation.”
